Hello friends,How’s the overwhelm going? Let’s just pause together here and take a breath. Spring has certainly sprung, the empire is crumbling and the season’s energy has life bursting forth doing all the 1,000,000 things….build nests, forage for food (in my just planted cover crops), find a mate (no, not me, I'm all set thanks ❤️), prep the garden beds, make compost, write a new soil lecture, write this newsletter. How are you paddling through it all? Yesterday I found myself weary, battery drained with little sparkle to offer the world. I tried all the things I know to do, get myself outside (in the wet, gray cold), listen to the birds, walk the land and move my body on a hike. Nothing changed. Weary. Yet something was different. I LET myself be weary. No second arrows of judgement or forcing myself into a more cheerful disposition. Acceptance. The difference, at 60 years old, is I know it will pass. I know weary is necessary, a part of being a whole human living in the world, and appropriate given where we are as a culture. All the feels get a seat at my emotional table. Welcome, weary. The difference now is I can lean on my people. “Hey, can you hold the sparkle for today? Can I rest here in your company?” I can show up as my authentic self with my people. How do I know they’re my people? They let me feel where I’m at without trying to get me to change. Because they share this same value; Our feelings are necessary and transient. They move through us. They signal we are alive and paying attention. They deserve our attention. So, I didn’t dam up the weary, didn’t force it into submission, didn’t wish it away. I trusted my soul’s wisdom and let it be. I did have a kind conversation with myself when I walked into the gym and immediately started to tear up at the tenderness of the human condition around me. “Honey, get a grip here, we can cry later.” No, I’m not quite ready yet to walk around the gym in tears and I’m ok with that! 😀 Why am I sharing all this with you in our monthly newsletter? I bet you can guess. Because we don’t always need to have our shit together. We can rest, we can be weary, full of rage, full of grief and if we let it all move through us, we come out on the other side. Clearer, more intact and ready for whatever the next day holds. AND, someone else in our web can hold the light, the vision, the sparkle of a new way for us when we can’t. Find our people.Feel the feels.Ensparkelate our little piece of the world when we can.Today’s a new day.Crisp, blue, sunny. Up with the dawn chorus, tea in hand as I inspect the babies popping up in the hemp field. I also sat with my Mary Oliver books searching for a poem for this newsletter and after looking through them all, I came back to my favorite. The poem that someone on staff read every closing ceremony with massage students for the 32 ceremonies I was a part of - and yes, probably I read it 25 of those times. This poem that makes me cry every time I read it. Surprisingly, it’s different sentences each time that touch me. Can you guess what poem? Yes, Wild Geese. Happenings At HeartstoneOh besides making compost?! 🤓💩 Open Land Day!Our very first one of the year will be Saturday, May 16th, 1:30 - 4:30. What is it exactly? Time for folks to come visit us, the gardens, the pond, their sit spot, the land in general. We've never believed this beautiful place was just ours. So come, wander the land, bring a lunch, and shop at our "store" where cash is queen, but checks and Venmo will be accepted. 😜 Please park on the road and walk up the driveway (unless you physically are unable). Happenings ElsewhereOur friend, Jen Frey is offering her HEARTransformation apprenticeship. This is a combination of live online classes and ceremonies as well as three in-person weekends. Parasympathetic MusingsThis one might not be so calming, but inspirational and formative to who I am today. I first read The Amazon, by Barbara Walker in 1992 and am currently re-reading it. It's the story of a young Amazonian woman who time travels forward to our times. We get to view our culture as observed by a woman coming from Matriarchy and how ridiculous our current culture is. Timely? Yes. Happy Mother's DayStore Highlight ~ Angel WingsAngel Wings, in both tincture and gummy is our #1 seller. This 1:1 blend of CBD and CBDA is a beautiful formulation to help with pain, anxiety, depression, creating safety, help with sleep if the cause of insomnia is anxiety or pain. The growing season is rapidly approaching! Yay! Insert happy dance. Five years ago I created the Grow course for folks who wanted to grow their own cannabis medicine (yes, high CBD “hemp” is cannabis). This marks the fifth year offering the course and I must say, it is my favorite (shhh, don’t tell the others). I love this 6-month journey with folks as they learn about themselves and cannabis while they tend their plants from the tiny seed to the dried flowers of harvest. Yes, the world is...
No, you haven't received a mistaken summer email from the great beyond. I've decided to make this March email all about the promise of Flowers!!! I’m writing on a magnificently sunny day after days of snow (shoveling), single digit temperatures (bundling up to be outside), and fog like I’ve never seen this time of year (what the heck?!). The birds have pulled are beginning to belt out their new spring tunes and even the people I passed on my walk have warm-smile greetings and a spring in...
